Bangkok Tailors

September 27th, 2007

High quality, reasonably priced tailored clothes that can be delivered within 24 hours… Sounds unrealistic? Not when it comes to Bangkok! There are many, many tailor shops around Bangkok, in particular the Sukhumvit and Silom areas. Somehow, all those that I’ve visited are opened by 2nd / 3rd generation Sikhs armed with ang moh names.

Anyway, here’s my personal experience with the Boss Avenue shop, which is conveniently located beside the Nana BTS station. Made 2 cashmere wool pants at 1200 Bht (SGD 54) each and 3 100% cotton, french cuff shirts at 950 Bht (SGD 43) each. Had first fitting 2 days after ordering and made the collection another 2 days later. Happy with the results!

Here’re some tips for visiting the tailors:

  • Don’t fall for too good to be true packages. e.g. a suit, 2 shirts and 2 pants for USD 100. Chances are that the prices quoted on the advertisements are for clothes made with inferior materials.
  • Bring along a sample shirt or pants if possible. They’re very good at copying!
  • Check with hotel staff on the reputable shops.
  • Arrange for at least 1 fitting.
  • Don’t rush. Give them an allowance of at least 3 days to do it properly.
  • Bargain! They’ll usually give a better price when you order more than one piece.

Happy Mid Autumn Festival.

Yes. I just recalled what that was called in English. Had been going. Mooncake Festival or Yue Bing Jie,  i call it! Think when I was younger I prefer Lantern Festival. hehe…

No longer mid autumn here anymore. But it still is over @ your side. =D

No moon cakes for you this year! Hope the moon in Bangkok is just as pretty though.

PS: why is it that when i type in chinese it doesn’t appear?

Nearest BTS Station to the service apartment, Arasia Luecha Park. Less than 5 minutes walk away!

Somehow, it reminds me of Fortress Maximus

The 223 year old Giant Swing reopened amid much fanfare last Thu, after undergoing 2 years of reparation work.

Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin was hopeful that Thailand would enjoy greater stability now that the new Giant Swing was installed.

Giant Swing… Stability… Hmmm…
